Cold Wave Intensifies in Madhya Pradesh: Temperature Drops in Bhopal, Indore, and Other Districts

Bhopal, February 8  Madhya Pradesh is reeling under a fresh spell of cold weather as icy winds from northwestern India have intensified winter conditions across the state. The ongoing cold wave has caused a sharp drop of up to 5 degrees Celsius in both day and night temperatures, increasing the chill factor. Major cities like Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Ujjain have experienced a significant dip in temperatures, with freezing winds persisting on Friday and similar conditions expected on Saturday. However, relief from the cold is anticipated from Sunday onwards.

Temperature Plummets Across the State

The cold wave has made a strong comeback in February, bringing a steep decline in mercury levels over the past three days. Night temperatures have dipped below 10°C, while daytime temperatures have dropped below 25°C in several districts.

In the past 24 hours, the coldest regions included Rajgarh, Raisen, Dhar, Shajapur, Sehore, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Chhatarpur, Umaria, and Shahdol, experiencing intense cold wave conditions. Bhopal, Vidisha, Jhabua, Agar Malwa, Guna, Datia, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Satna, Maihar, Mauganj, Singrauli, and Anuppur also felt the impact of chilly winds.

At night, temperatures dropped below 10°C in Kalyanpur, Rajgarh, Khajuraho, Nowgaon, Tikamgarh, Guna, Satna, Dhar, Pachmarhi, and Mandla. Meanwhile, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and Gwalior recorded minimum temperatures ranging from 10.2°C to 12°C. The wind speed in many cities reached up to 30 km/h, with Bhopal witnessing winds at 15-17 km/h.

On Friday, Bhopal experienced the sharpest temperature drop, plunging 4.4°C in a single day to settle at 23.2°C, making it the coldest district in the state. Other regions recorded:

  • Raisen: 23.5°C
  • Rewa: 23.8°C
  • Pachmarhi: 24.4°C
  • Satna: 24.9°C
  • Dhar, Narsinghpur, and Damoh: 25°C
  • Gwalior: 25.4°C
  • Indore: 24.8°C
  • Ujjain: 26°C

The ongoing cold spell is expected to persist for another 24 hours, after which temperatures are likely to rise from Sunday, bringing some relief to the people of Madhya Pradesh.
