The Hundred: Sunrisers Hyderabad Acquires Northern Superchargers Franchise

New Delhi, February 6  Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has officially acquired the Northern Superchargers franchise in The Hundred after placing a winning bid of £100 million. The Yorkshire County Cricket Club previously operated the team.

This makes SRH the third Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise to own a team in England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) 100-ball tournament, following Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants.

Six Teams Already Sold, Two More Available

The ECB has already sold six out of the eight teams in The Hundred, including:

  • London Spirit
  • Oval Invincibles
  • Welsh Fire
  • Manchester Originals
  • Birmingham Phoenix

The remaining two franchises, Trent Rockets and Southern Brave, are still available for acquisition.

SRH Expands Its Global Franchise Cricket Presence

Managed by the Chennai-based Sun Group, Sunrisers Hyderabad is a well-established name in franchise cricket. The team competes in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also owns Sunrisers Eastern Cape in SA20, where they have already won two consecutive titles.

In the IPL 2023 season, SRH finished as runners-up under the leadership of Australian captain Pat Cummins, one of the most respected international skippers in world cricket.
