Starting January 1, 2025, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is set to implement a new regulation applicable to all major telecom operators, including Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL. Known as the Right of Way (ROW) rule, this regulation aims to streamline the installation of optical fiber networks and telecom towers across the country, facilitating faster growth and improved connectivity.

Benefits of the ROW Regulation

The DoT has informed all states about the new rule through official communication. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the DoT, stated that the uniform Right of Way policy will significantly accelerate the development of telecom infrastructure, aiding in the rapid expansion of 5G technology across India.

Improved 5G Services on the Horizon

With the implementation of the ROW rule, both public and private telecom operators will find it easier to acquire land for setting up telecom towers and laying broadband cables. State governments will play an active role in facilitating this process. This initiative will enable telecom companies to deploy their services faster. As Jio, Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL are already engaged in setting up 5G towers, the new regulation will further expedite their progress.

Enhanced Services for Jio, Airtel, and BSNL Customers

Previously, the absence of a uniform Right of Way policy in states often created obstacles for telecom companies in expanding their infrastructure. The new regulation mandates all states to adopt a standardized approach and actively support telecom operators. This will benefit companies like Jio, led by Mukesh Ambani, Airtel, headed by Sunil Mittal, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL, allowing them to enhance their services and provide better connectivity to their customers.
