Madhya Pradesh is bracing for a significant shift in weather conditions as April approaches. A powerful weather system is predicted to bring hailstorms, rain, and strong winds across 40 districts in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported that this unusual weather pattern is expected to last for approximately three days, offering some relief from rising temperatures while also posing potential risks in various regions.

Rain and Hail to Alleviate Summer Heat
Unlike the typical rise in temperature usually seen in April, this year, the state is set to experience rain, thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds. On Monday, April 1, districts such as Ratlam, Mandsaur, Alirajpur, and Barwani can expect cloudy skies with light rainfall. In contrast, major cities including Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur will enjoy clear skies and bright sunshine throughout the day.
Starting Tuesday, April 2, weather instability is predicted to escalate, with hailstorm warnings issued for Narmadapuram, Betul, Burhanpur, and Khandwa. Winds gusting at speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are anticipated in areas like Harda, Khargone, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna, while moderate winds of 30 to 40 km/h may affect Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Jhabua, and Sagar.
Thunderstorm Warnings for April 2-3
On April 2, hailstorm warnings will remain active for Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Anuppur, Dindori, and Balaghat. Moreover, over 28 districts, including Shivpuri and Harda, are expected to experience strong winds and thunderstorms.
By April 3, Baitul may once again face hailstorms, with wind speeds potentially reaching 50 km/h across parts of Khandwa, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Shahdol, Umaria, and Chhindwara. Light to moderate winds are also anticipated in Bhopal, Vidisha, and 24 other districts.
Rising Temperatures Despite Rainfall Forecast
Despite the forecast for storms, temperatures have been on the rise, with Sunday recording a peak of 39 °C in Mandla. Other notable temperatures in major cities include:
- Bhopal: 35.8 °C
- Indore: 36.8 °C
- Gwalior: 35.3 °C
- Ujjain: 36.8 °C
- Jabalpur: 35.8 °C
Cyclonic System Driving Weather Changes
Meteorologists attribute this weather change to a cyclonic circulation developing over central Maharashtra and the Konkan region. This system is expected to draw moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, creating a trough over the Deccan Plateau. This trough will influence weather patterns in Madhya Pradesh, affecting temperature, wind, and rainfall.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant, particularly in rural and hilly areas, and to adhere to local weather advisories issued by the IMD and local authorities in the coming days.
