Kolkata, February 5 : Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Wednesday announced that Jio is developing the world’s most advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India. Speaking at the 8th Bengal Global Business Summit, Ambani emphasized that AI is crucial for India’s transformation into a deep-tech powerhouse with cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities.

Jio’s Digital Revolution: A Journey from Kolkata
Ambani recalled Jio’s commercial launch in 2016 from Kolkata, describing it as a turning point for India’s digital transformation.
“The launch from Kolkata, the City of Joy, proved to be auspicious for us. It not only triggered a digital revolution but also cemented India’s position as a global digital superpower,” he stated.
He further highlighted that Jio is not just India’s top digital services provider but also the world’s leading data company, a journey that began from Kolkata.
Kolkata: India’s Top Data Consumer on Jio’s Network
Ambani revealed that Kolkata has the highest data consumption on Jio’s network across India.
“By the end of 2023, Jio achieved the world’s fastest transnational 5G rollout. Today, Jio covers 100% of Bengal’s population. I am especially grateful to the people of Kolkata, who continue to be our highest data users in India,” he added.
Jio 5G Driving Digital Growth in Rural Bengal
Jio’s 5G expansion is bridging the digital divide in rural Bengal, empowering students, professionals, and families with high-speed internet access. Ambani emphasized that 5G is transforming education, entertainment, and sports consumption in every home and smartphone across the state.
Bengal’s First Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Digha
Ambani announced that Jio is constructing Bengal’s first-ever cable landing station (CLS) in Digha, ensuring direct fiber connectivity to West Bengal. The facility is expected to be operational early next year and will establish Bengal as a digital leader in eastern India.
AI-Ready Data Centre in Kolkata
“Data centers are at the heart of AI infrastructure,” Ambani declared, revealing that Jio’s Kolkata data center is being upgraded to a state-of-the-art AI-ready facility.
“I am delighted to announce that our Kolkata data center is being transformed into a cutting-edge AI-ready facility, which will be fully operational in the next nine months,” he said in the presence of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

With Jio’s indigenous 5G stack, rapid expansion of Jio Fiber and Air Fiber, Bengal is set to integrate AI, cloud computing, and other disruptive technologies to modernize its economy and drive employment and entrepreneurship.
