Are you a central government employee or a pensioner? If so, this update is crucial for you! The anticipation surrounding the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) has become a hot topic among central government workers. Many are wondering when the announcement will be made and if the Eighth Pay Commission will come into effect.

When Will the DA Increase Be Announced?
Traditionally, the government announces the DA increase in March, which takes effect from January 1st of the same year. As March draws to a close, there has yet to be an official announcement from the government. However, various reports suggest that central government employees may soon receive positive news regarding an increase in their Dearness Allowance.
How Much Will the DA Increase?
Currently, the Dearness Allowance for central government employees stands at 53%. Recent reports indicate that there could be a 2% increase, bringing the DA up to 55%. This potential increase aligns with the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
The government determines the DA based on the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW), which is published by the Shimla-based Labour Bureau under the Ministry of Labour. According to the AICPI-IW report for December 2024, the index decreased by 0.8%, reaching 143.7, which could pose limitations on the extent of the DA increase.
Expectations from Employee Unions and Government Decisions
Employee unions are optimistic about the likelihood of a 2% DA increase. Rupak Sarkar, the president of the All India Government Employees and Workers Confederation, along with Shib Gopal Mishra, the secretary of NC-JCM (Staff Side), have also supported this forecast.
The final decision regarding the DA increase will be made by the central cabinet led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. If approved, the new DA rate will come into effect from January 1, 2025.
Central government employees are now eagerly awaiting the official announcement from the government. Only time will reveal when this announcement will arrive!
